The hero’s left Rimikak village in good moral. However, the resolve of the caravan staff seems to waver, as they are unhappy with the presence of the monstrous Kuma. On returning to the caravan the first thing that Kuma did was rummage through one of the trade goods wagons. Pulling out the Giant sized axe and armour that Sandru recovered in the Giant ruins, and making a horrible mess in the process.
Sandru continues working himself hard as he tries to improve the moral of his staff, while hiding the fact that he was suffering from ‘cold-sickness’ since his plunge into lake Rimikak. The caravan is stocked with fish from the lake, which should be enough supplies to reach the settlement of Iqalait on a direct route.
The Rikikak tribesmen who had been living off the land since losing their village had stripped the region of the Gaarjuk Hills around Lake Rimikak bare. The caravan was ambushed by a hungry Artic Chimera, which triggered an avalanche burying the caravan in snow. The Chimera seemed determined to steal their wagonload of fish. However, it fell quickly to the onslaught of magic, axes and arrows. Traftar butchered the creature for the parts he thought would be valuable. Sandra had to wonder if it might not have been better to keep the pelt together instead of hacking it to pieces. Ignatius proceeded to experimentally ‘cook’ those parts that Traftar left behind. (The result 1 is store of food supplies, and 0 stores of trade goods). However, the hero’s find a treasure horde in the creature’s lair.
Given the shortage of food the caravan decide to head directly through the lands of the Silver Martin Tribe to save three days of travel, despite the warning from Ulf that the local tribes practice cannibalism. Arriving at the Silver Martin Village, the tribe and the attractive head-woman, have prepared a feast for the caravan. The negotiations seem to go well until Sandru’s lack of understanding of the local languages causes the villagers to take offense. It’s all too much for Sandru and the caravan makes a hasty retreat from the Silver Martin lands, which costs them an extra two days of travel.
